John E. D’Agostino lives in Queens, NY and has been exhibiting work since 1978.
Improvisation is a key element in his work. D’Agostino uses “controlled accidents” bursting with color to push the emotional image from his subjects onto the canvas. D’Agostino’s kinetic canvases often include small details that evoke the secrets and personal histories of his subjects. He draws inspiration from many different sources, including nature, jazz music, sports, and Tiffany stained glass. But where some see many different artforms, D’Agostino sees instead a timeless, universal strand of improvisation, abstraction and innovation. There is no distinction between the work and the inspiration.
